Healthy and Wholesome

At Basker, a varied selection of healthy, nourishing foods is always on offer. Lunchtime is a sensory celebration, with songs and conversations that make eating a positive experience. In many of our settings, cooking is an interactive activity. Our team often heads into the kitchen with the children to prepare tasty, healthy recipes. Many locations also have a vegetable garden, giving children the chance to learn where their food comes from. Research shows that this experience helps them make conscious food choices later in life.

Flavour of the Month

At Basker, we regularly share our ‘Little chef recipes’ at our Day Care centres. Together with the youngest children, we create delicious and healthy dishes – think egg mice or fruit pizzas! We explore new foods with all our senses: tasting, smelling, seeing, and touching. This way, children learn early on how enjoyable and exciting healthy eating can be.

Mystery Box

In 2024, we introduced the Mystery Box at our After School Care. Children uncover the ‘secret ingredients’ inside and work together to create their own dishes. It’s a fantastic way to spark creativity!

Through cooking, children learn teamwork and discover each other’s cultural food traditions. And of course, after cooking comes the best part – enjoying the tasty results together. What a treat!

Ready, Steady, Cook!

“Shall we make pancakes together?”

A question that might make many parents break out in a sweat – after all, children aren’t exactly the tidiest chefs! But involving your child in the kitchen has so many benefits. Cooking, baking, chopping, and tidying up – whether you’re making pancakes, a quiche, or mashed potatoes – teaches children about healthy food choices and gives them practical skills for later life. It also boosts motor skills and supports brain development. So, grab your chef’s hats and let’s get cooking – together!
