Fun Activities for the Journey

Holiday Chat Book

With a holiday activity book such as Vakantieklets ("Holiday Chat"), children can stay entertained for hours. Packed with fun challenges and activities that can be done within a small space, it's perfect for both car and plane journeys.

Play Travel Bingo

Create (or download) a bingo card before you leave, filled with things you might spot along the way. Every time someone sees an item, they can cross it off. The first person to complete a row wins a tasty treat!

Word Chain

Choose a category, such as animals. The first player says an animal, for example monkey. The next player must think of an animal beginning with the last letter of the previous word. How long can you keep the chain going?

The Banana Game

Every time someone spots a yellow car, they earn a point. The player with the most points after an hour wins.

Guess the Tune

Take turns humming a song while everyone else tries to guess what it is.

Unfortunately... Fortunately...

One player starts a sentence with "Unfortunately..."

For example:

"Unfortunately, we're being chased by a crocodile."

The next player responds with "Fortunately..."

"Fortunately, I once learned how to train crocodiles."

Continue taking turns and see where the story goes!

The Forbidden Word

Choose a few words that nobody is allowed to say during the journey. Then try to tempt each other into accidentally saying them. Who will slip up first?

Dilemmas, Dilemmas, Dilemmas...

Take turns asking each other amusing "Would You Rather?" questions.

For example:

Would you rather put your hand in a bucket of worms or dance with wriggling cockroaches on your head?

The sillier and more difficult the dilemma, the better!

Travel-Sized Board Games

Many popular board games are available in compact travel editions, making them ideal for journeys.

Think of games such as:

• Travel Connect Four
• Travel Ludo
• Mini magnetic games and puzzles

Fantasy Stories

Start a sentence but stop halfway through. The next person must continue the story. This often leads to the funniest and most imaginative tales.
