Why this change?
Several years ago, Zein became part of a larger childcare family. Together, we continued building a strong foundation of shared values, modern pedagogy and high-quality care. In the already vast landscape of childcare organisations, many of which have similar names, this can sometimes cause confusion. We experienced this ourselves. . It made us reflect: who are we together? What do we truly value? How can we support our children and parents even better? And how can we stand out more clearly?
To find out, we conducted several surveys and spoke with parents, colleagues, and experts. We looked at how things are going at our locations, what’s working well, and what could be improved. We’re happy to say we are proud of what we found: dedicated teams, lots of personal attention, and children who truly feel at home. That’s something we’re proud of. At the same time, we notice that working with four different names leads to double work. That takes time and energy which we’d rather spend on what really matters: your children, you as parents, and our colleagues.
That is why we’ve chosen to move forward as one organisation, with a new name: Basker.
A name that grows up with you
And that new name? We’ve spent months working on it. We searched for a name that suits children of all ages, appeals to both Dutch and international families, and feels right for our colleagues too. We were looking for something distinctive – something different from the sweet and cute names we often see in childcare. Because young, sweet children grow up. And when they do so in a safe environment, surrounded by people who understand how it works, they also grow in confidence. In themselves, in others, and in the world around them.
As such, we have chosen a new name that not only sounds different, but also carries a deeper meaning. The name Basker is inspired by the English verb ‘to bask’. That is often translated as “to enjoy”, but it means so much more than that. It’s about a warm, safe environment where you feel seen and at home. Imagine a child sitting in the sunshine. Relaxed and with an open gaze. Curious about what’s to come. But ‘basking’ is also about being proud of who you are and daring to take your place in the world. That is what we want to give children at Basker childcare: the space to play, to develop, to enjoy – and to explore the world with confidence.
Moving forward together
By continuing together as Basker, we feel even more connected and better able to learn from and with one another. With one shared name, we can communicate more clearly. This creates recognition and trust – among parents, children and colleagues. By bringing together Zein with Zonnekinderen and BLOS, we preserve what is working well and grow stronger together.
While we are changing our name, our commitment to providing high quality care and service tailored to the specific needs of children growing up in an international environment, remains unchanged. Furthermore, alongside our international childcare locations, our integrated child centres (IKC) also remain an important and visible part of Basker childcare. Together, we are building an organisation that is ready for the future. And where everyone feels at home.
What will change for you?
Not much, actually. The locations and familiar faces will remain just as you are used to. Starting in the fourth quarter of 2025, you will see the new name at our locations and in our communication – essentially, everywhere we are visible. And because we will soon all be working under one name, we’ll be able to learn even more from each other and do things just a little bit better together.
Of course, we will continue to grow and explore ways to improve. But that’s something we’re always doing and stands apart from this change.
How will the transition take place?
